About Us

Together we can improve learning outcomes

GITEA Education Foundation was started by Education Professionals with a combined experience of more than 200 years in the education sector in Uganda. GITEA professionals had worked with donor-funded programs and with Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in collaboration with Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and other Ministries. The Education Professionals had designed and led the implementation of several Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Early Grade Reading (EGR) programmes in partnership with the Government of Uganda and development partners like USAID. Additionally educational professionals had undertaken roles in, teaching college students as tutors, managing education-focused projects and with NGOs in collaboration with Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports, particularly in EGR and prevention of School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV). Other roles that GITEA professionals had assumed included development of Early Learning Standards for the Directorate of Education Standards (DES), pre-and primary teacher ongoing professional development activities such as training, instructional coaching, instructional materials’ production including guides and modules across print, digital, audio, and video formats, monitoring and support supervision, guidance and counselling, implementing home learning and remedial programs as well as designing electronic messages for teachers. Furthermore, several GITEA professionals had contributed to the institutionalisation of EGR and the prevention of SRGBV within Primary Teacher Education (PTE) and the Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE). They had led curriculum design teams for UNITE, developed Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) systems for both local and international organizations as well as trained MEL personnel in various Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) approaches. Additionally, they had managed finances for donor and local government-funded projects, built the capacity of staff, sub-grantees, local governments (LGs), and civil society organizations (CSOs). All GITEA staff members have consistently demonstrated leadership and teamwork across these initiatives. The formation of the Foundation was prompted by the restructuring and eventual cancellation of USAID-funded ECCE and EGR activities previously implemented by the Foundation’s founders. Following consultations with the MoES and other key stakeholders, the Foundation was established as a locally driven sustainable solution to continue advancing ECCE, EGR, and other initiatives aimed at improving pre-primary, primary, and teacher education.
